The Drakensberg Mountain Range or "Dragon Mountains" is the most majestic in South Africa. It is the longest mountain range in the country running for hundreds of kilometres and reaching a width of 150 kilometres in places. The Zulu nation call it "The Barrier of Spears" because of the spear like formations where rare and reclusive mountain game and bird species thrive in the remoteness of this craggy formation. Exotic names like Monks Cowl, Sani Pass, Giants Castle, Devils Peak, Dragons Back and Rhino's Horn all add to the mystic nature of the range. |

| The most spectacular is the Southern Berg where the Drakensberg Gardens Golf & Leisure Resort is nestled in its foothills on a 860 acre estate. The resort is conveniently located allowing access to spectacular walks and hikes - the most strenuous being a nine hour hike up the Rhino horn 3000 metres above sea level. You can also sleep overnight in one of the many caves in the area or hike to see ancient bushmen paintings left by the long-vanished people of Africa. |
